Those with Christmas debt should avoid the sales
People who find themselves with high levels of debt following the Christmas period may want to avoid the current high street sales, it has been suggested.
James Ketchell, spokesperson for the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, said that budgeting and discipline regarding finances are especially important at this time of year.
"There's nothing worse than having a big credit card debt and piling on another load of debt," he remarked.
Mr Ketchell described a strategy in which consumers set up a timetable to pay back credit card debt that was accumulated during the Christmas season.
Those who find it difficult to stick to that timetable may want to seek advice from a debt advice organisation, he added.
Recently, Grant Thornton predicted that 28,000 Britons may face insolvency during the first quarter of 2008 as a result of debt racked up over Christmas.
